Concrete Finisher — Civil Infrastructure

Department: Operations - Water Resources
Location: Tallahassee, FL

Got it — that makes sense. The title is doing a lot of filtering work, so it’s worth getting it right.

?? Title adjustment (recommendation)

Instead of “Concrete Finisher — Water & Heavy Civil Construction”, I recommend:

Concrete Finisher — Civil Infrastructure

Why this works better:

  • Still clearly not residential / not commercial

  • Signals heavy civil + water work without scaring off finishers who don’t identify as “WWTP guys”

  • Cleaner, tighter, more job-board friendly

  • Reduces the mental “this sounds like a specialty plant role” reaction

(Alternative backups if you want options later:
Concrete Finisher — Heavy Civil
Concrete Finisher — Civil Construction
Concrete Finisher — Infrastructure Projects
But Civil Infrastructure is the sweet spot.)

Below is the full posting again, unchanged in substance, just with the improved title. This is copy-and-paste ready and remains 100% Petticoat-Schmitt 2025 compliant.

Concrete Finisher — Civil Infrastructure

Tallahassee, FL
Full-Time

At Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., we don’t just build infrastructure — we build life-changing infrastructure. We are seeking an experienced Concrete Finisher to join our field team supporting civil infrastructure projects, including water, wastewater, and heavy civil construction throughout North Florida.

This position is finisher-focused. The majority of the work involves placing, finishing, and detailing concrete on structural and civil scopes. If your strength is finishing concrete to spec — not framing — this role is built for you.

What You’ll Do

Concrete Finishing Operations

  • Place, consolidate, screed, and finish concrete for structural concrete, slabs, walls, basins, curbs, and civil flatwork.

  • Perform concrete finishing using hand and power tools to meet project specifications and quality standards.

  • Finish concrete surfaces including troweling, edging, jointing, and surface correction.

  • Monitor concrete placement for proper slump, consolidation, and finish timing.

  • Repair surface defects and perform patching or touch-up work as needed.

Jobsite Support

  • Assist with concrete placement preparation, including grade checks and site readiness.

  • Install embeds, sleeves, and block-outs related to concrete pours.

  • Safely operate hand and power tools (vibrators, grinders, saws, drills, floats, trowels).

  • Work from ladders or scaffolding as required.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Safety & Quality

  • Follow Petticoat-Schmitt and OSHA safety standards at all times.

  • Identify, report, and correct hazards or near-miss conditions.

  • Take pride in craftsmanship, surface quality, and attention to detail.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2+ years of concrete finishing experience in heavy civil, structural, or infrastructure construction.

  • Proven experience finishing concrete on structural or civil projects (not residential flatwork only).

  • Strong understanding of concrete placement, finishing timing, and surface quality requirements.

  • Ability to read basic plans and understand concrete details.

  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented.

Traits That Succeed Here

  • Takes pride in high-quality concrete finishes.

  • Understands the importance of safety, preparation, and timing.

  • Works well as part of a crew and communicates effectively.

  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Schedule & Location

  • Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Overtime and occasional Saturdays as project needs require

  • Work performed within approximately a 70-mile radius of Tallahassee, FL
