Survey & AutoCAD Technician – Jacksonville, FL

Employment Type: Full-Time

At Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., we don’t just build infrastructure — we build life-changing infrastructure. As a privately owned, employee-owned civil contracting firm, we perform work across public and private markets, specializing in site development, underground utilities, roadway, and water/wastewater treatment plant construction throughout the Southeast.

We’re seeking a Survey & AutoCAD Technician to support both field and office operations. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of construction layout, field data collection, and CAD drafting — transforming raw survey data into reliable, accurate deliverables that keep projects moving.

What You’ll Do

Field & Office Integration

  • Collect and process field data for layout, grading, utilities, and as-built verification.

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors.

  • Assist survey crews and ensure seamless coordination between field and office teams.

  • Verify site conditions and communicate discrepancies promptly.

Drafting & Deliverables

  • Build and manage job files in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including surfaces, alignments, points, and linework.

  • Prepare high-quality deliverables such as as-built drawings, layout maps, and control plans.

  • Maintain CAD standards and file organization as directed by the Survey Manager and Senior Survey Technician.

  • Support digital documentation workflows for survey and construction teams.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Interpret construction drawings, elevations, and specifications to ensure accuracy.

  • Communicate effectively with field teams, engineers, and project managers.

  • Assist in improving survey workflows and implementing best practices.

  • Support project planning with timely, accurate data.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of field survey experience (construction layout, utilities, or civil site work preferred).

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (required).

  • Experience with GPS and total station equipment (Trimble or Topcon preferred).

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and self-motivation.

  • Professional attitude and commitment to teamwork.

Preferred

  • Experience producing as-builts or survey documentation.

  • Familiarity with HCSS HeavyJob or similar construction software.

You’ll Succeed Here If You

  • Are comfortable working outdoors and in the office creating detailed drawings.

  • Deliver dependable, accurate survey data that supports project schedules.

  • Stay curious, ask questions, and pursue continuous improvement.

  • Value clear communication, teamwork, and high-quality work.

You’ll Love It Here If You Live Our A.C.T. Values

Character – Integrity, respect, trustworthiness, humility — no jerks allowed.
Team – Shared goals, servant leadership, determination, and winning together.
