Survey & AutoCAD Technician

Location: Jacksonville, FL

Employment Type: Full-time

Position Summary

The Survey & AutoCAD Technician reports directly to the Survey Manager and plays a vital role in connecting field survey operations with office deliverables. This role requires hands-on field survey experience combined with technical AutoCAD Civil 3D skills. You will work closely with the Survey Manager, Sr. Survey Technician, and field crews to support construction layout, data collection, and as-built/record drawings.

Success in this role depends on your ability to operate survey equipment in the field, process data accurately, and draft quality documents in Civil 3D that guide our construction operations.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Demonstrated field survey experience including construction layout, utilities, grading, and as-built data collection.
  • Ability to set up, operate, and troubleshoot survey equipment (GPS, robotic total stations, and data collectors).
  • Work side-by-side with field crews to gather accurate data, then process and draft deliverables in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Be able to read and understand construction plans as related to survey work.
  • Build and process job files in AutoCAD based on project needs and direction from the Survey Manager and Sr. Survey Technician.
  • Prepare final documents including As-built/Record drawings and other survey-related plans and maps with minimal supervision.
  • Engage in all technical components of survey work, including computations, interpreting plans and elevations, construction layout, roadway and utilities, and finish grading.
  • Execute work according to plans and directives received from the Survey Manager / Sr. Survey Technician / Crew Lead.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with the Survey Manager, Sr. Survey Technician, and field personnel.

Here’s How You Will Measure Success

  • You’re equally comfortable working outdoors on a construction site as you are preparing drawings in the office.
  • You consistently deliver accurate, reliable survey data and documents that keep projects moving.
  • You’re constantly learning and growing your knowledge by watching, doing, and asking questions.
  • You jump in and take initiative without always needing to be asked.
  • You’ve built a reputation for being reliable, hardworking, and a strong teammate.

What We Need From You

  • Minimum 1–2 years of field survey experience (construction layout or civil site work strongly preferred).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Ability to operate GPS and total stations.
  • Pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude as a direct reflection of the company.
  • Live Petticoat-Schmitt’s core values: Accountability, Character, and Team.

You’ll Love It Here If You:

  • Value Accountability by putting safety first, preferring clearly communicated expectations, executing the plan, and taking ownership of solving problems.
  • Care about Character, operate with integrity, honor commitments, are always trustworthy, and practice humility — no jerks allowed!
  • Work as a Team, share the same vision to meet goals, want to grow as an individual, are willing to help others succeed, and are determined to do your best for the team.
