GPS Machine Control Specialist
At Petticoat-Schmitt Civil Contractors, Inc., accuracy, accountability, and teamwork drive every project we deliver. We’re looking for a GPS Machine Control Specialist who is passionate about technology and precision in construction. This role ensures our crews have the tools, training, and support they need to maximize efficiency and accuracy on the jobsite.
Project Setup: Prepare projects for GPS machine control, including 3D models of site plans and as-built data collection.
Accuracy Verification: Verify site set-ups, calibrations, localizations, and machine measurements to ensure accuracy.
Surveying: Perform site calibrations, pre-surveys, progress surveys, and as-builts as required.
Data Management: Collect and prepare GPS and survey data for project team deliverables.
Training & Support: Educate and assist field personnel—including operators, foremen, and superintendents—on GPS and positioning equipment use.
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot GPS equipment, serving as the first line of defense for machine control issues.
Site Support: Assist with site staking and layout as needed.
Collaboration: Train and coach operators, foremen, and superintendents on machine control and rover systems, including Leica ConX.
Other Duties: Support management with additional projects or responsibilities as assigned.
Technical Knowledge
Strong organizational and technical problem-solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and support end users.
Detail- and results-oriented with the ability to analyze data and resolve root causes.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with AutoCAD Civil3D is a plus.
Self-directed with a proactive approach.
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing and walking, with occasional sitting, reaching, and handling tasks.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 70 lbs.
Specific vision abilities including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
Environmental Adaptability
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, across various times and locations.
Required use of PPE including hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and high-visibility clothing.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (GPS, machine control, land surveying, or similar).
Experience with Leica software and machine control preferred, but not required.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software suite.
OSHA-10 certification or ability to obtain.
