We’re looking for a Payroll Specialist who will ensure our employees are paid accurately and on time, while supporting compliance and delivering exceptional service to both field and office personnel.
Payroll Processing: Process weekly payroll for hourly field employees across multiple states, ensuring accurate entry of hours, earnings, deductions, and direct deposits.
Compliance: Assist with certified payroll reporting and compliance with Davis-Bacon requirements, payroll tax filings, and year-end processing (including W-2 distribution).
Employee Records: Maintain payroll files such as tax forms, garnishments, and direct deposit authorizations, while safeguarding confidentiality of sensitive data.
Review & Verification: Audit timecards, job cost coding, and project allocations for accuracy.
Collaboration: Work closely with supervisors, HR, and Accounting to manage new hires, terminations, and employee changes.
Employee Support: Provide timely assistance to employees regarding payroll-related questions, corrections, and adjustments.
Reporting & Audits: Generate payroll reports for accounting, audit, and compliance purposes; support internal audits and regulatory requirements.
Other Duties: Maintain the Petticoat-Schmitt Code of Conduct and assist with additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of payroll processes and multi-state payroll practices.
Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
Education & Experience
2–3 years of payroll processing experience preferred.
Construction industry experience and familiarity with certified payroll is a plus.
Computer Skills
Experience with payroll software such as Viewpoint, HCSS, or equivalent preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Demands
Regularly required to sit, use hands, talk, and hear.
Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
Operates in a professional office environment with occasional coordination with field operations teams.
