Our work includes construction services for public works, water resources, wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), and site development. Your Responsibilities as a Pipelayer
As a Pipelayer at Petticoat-Schmitt, you’ll need a solid background working with pipes, but also experience in handling the dynamics of a pipe crew
- You’re the point person and the main lead for the hole. You’ll work with the foreman to understand the activities and objectives of the day and communicate the information to the rest of the pipe crew. You’re responsible for keeping things organized and getting everyone to work together.
- You make sure the pipes are put in correctly. You’re responsible for the knowledge and proper execution of the project. This includes knowing the differences between all the different kinds of pipes we lay, knowing how to shoot grade stick for correct depth for setting pipe elevation, and setting up lasers properly to set the grades.

Requirements for the Pipelayer Position at Petticoat-Schmitt:
- At least 6 months experience specifically as a pipelayer
- Experience must be working with large-diameter pipes in commercial construction
- Must be willing and able to climb in and out of trenches and work 20 to 30’ down in hole
- Must have reliable transportation and be willing to commute around Jacksonville and surrounding areas, including counties of Nassau, Clay, Duval, and St. Johns
- Must be available to work overtime and weekends as needed

Hours Information:
- Normal hours are M-F, 7am – 3:30pm
- Hours can extend depending on production needs.
- Some Saturdays as necessary. We are off on Sundays.
- We plan on working 40-45 hours per week. Overtime is likely but not guaranteed.
